Schools are where the next generation of writers are coming from

talks

I know how important it is to encourage reading and the appreciation of books to children. I enjoy visiting schools to run workshops, give talks and inspire children to write, discover books and reading for pleasure and learning.

I would love to come and give readings from my own work, tell stories, explain how publishing children's books and others work in the new era of self-publishing and set projects for pupils to try out in class or at home.

I've done many things in my life - made films, acted on television, juggled knifes and eaten fire. I've even been a printer, worked in a sound studio and won an award for podcasting.

In my lively and engaging talk, I speak about my unusual career and why I went to mime school, made a pilot episode for children's television programme and then persuaded the broadcasters to make a series. But most importantly, I explain the value of imagination, of having a creative mind and why reading and writing should definitely be encouraged.
